Our Mission

Following in the footsteps of one of the founding cohorts, our food waste cohort was decided upon following a semester of curriculum in Fall of 2024. In the spring we organized a food drive during food waste prevention week, disseminating information about the nationally practiced week via tabling on Speedway. We intend on focusing on creating an event on a larger scale that will cross the boundaries of our organization and unite other similar interests both on and off campus.

Morgan Bart

(He/Him)

Morgan is a sophomore currently pursuing a degree in Plan II alongside certificates in the Jefferson Scholars Program and the Bridging Disciplines program. He grew up in Fort Worth and discovered his passion for fighting food insecurity as an Eagle Scout working within his community. At UT, he has often been fascinated with the level of sophistication that exists without much coordination between different groups when concerning issues like food waste prevention. In his free time, he acts with the Broccoli Project and has his eyes open for the next hole in the wall establishment keeping Austin weird.

Guillermo Barrera

(He/Him)

Guillermo Barrera is a Sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering. From Mission, Texas, he’s passionate about robotics and research in engineering. The Food Waste Prevention Cohort allows for him to merge his aptitude in technical skills with interpersonal skills, enabling him to better manage projects involving teams of people in his endeavors. He also enjoys cooking, hiking, and eating at Roppolo’s Pizzeria.

Gauri Binup

(She/Her)

Gauri is an International Relations & Global Studies and Plan II Honors double major from Plano, Texas. She believes that helping the world starts with helping local communities, so she's long been devoted to the cause of community service— whether by tutoring refugees in Austin or by partaking in civic leadership as a Walker Fellow. As a member of the Food Waste Prevention Cohort, Gauri is looking to help students gain access to the nutrition they need while maintaining UT Austin's campus as a clean and sustainable learning environment. In her free time, Gauri writes poetry, learns new languages, and plays the viola.
